Just started my second week of work with the kiddies. I’m hoping that the way today went is a sign of things to come. Last week was rough at times and there were lots of changes for the kids to deal with, but by mid week, they seemed to be settling in and getting into the routine of our days. There were some really nice moments when they were totally focused on their work and it was beautiful to see. I’m hoping that we’ll be able to help support them as much as possible as the year progresses, but we do have some tough cookies in our group. Whew!
When you’re a teacher, even the “good” days are pretty stressful and it has been good to find some ways to unwind. One of my favorite things to do is blast some kick ass music on my way home. I heard this song on the radio a few days ago (this particular version, too! I love my local stations!) and was completely enthralled. It’s Recovery by Frank Turner.
His voice. Those words. My goodness. I ended up buying his latest album, Tape Deck Heart and have fallen in love with every single song. The song that I posted all the way at the top does things to my heart. It makes me want to jump and dance and sing and be surrounded by sweaty people screaming at the top of their lungs. It makes me miss concerts and the sense of community that comes with a great show. It’s folk and it’s punk and it’s beautiful. It’s also the perfect way to let go every stupid thing that has happened during the work day. God, I love rock music.
And while I bask in the glory of good tunes, here are some pictures from the weekend…
Friday night was the Italian festival in Tappan, NY. It was cold as balls, but we had a nice time walking around and listening to a fantastic cover band. Also, there was a couple ballroom dancing up by the stage and they made my life. As did these lights.
Saturday night, Steven and I had a fancy schmancy dinner at The Standard on the High Line. We’d gone to the Top of the Standard for my birthday last year to have drinks and take in the sights (the views are actually breathtaking), so it was nice to actually sit down and enjoy everything it had to offer. It didn’t hurt that we had a sweet gift certificate to spend!
A+ weekend all around. That’s two weekends in a row! I hope you all had a fantastic weekend, too! ♥
