Dear New York…

Dear New York,

I love you.

Sometimes your traffic sucks and your trains get delayed and your tourists stop in the middle of the freaking street to take a picture but you, New York, you are wonderful.

Thank you for your life and energy. Thank you for being the place where my parents met. Thank you for your history. Thank you for Webster Hall, Arlene’s Grocery, Irving Plaza, Roseland Ballroom, and hundred of other venues keep my soul happy. Thank you for late night margaritas and cheap Mexican food. Thank you for Starbies on practically every corner.

Thank you for The Apartment and the girls who live there. Thank you for Leland Avenue where I first learned to ride a bike. Thank you for Broadway. Thank you for that dirty old man in Little Italy who tried to chat me up as I was licking my ice cream cone. Thank you for the slow ass shuttle in Times Square that has made me miss my train home more times than I can count. Thank you for epic battles with evil taxi drivers who won’t slow down for two seconds to let me into their lane, which result in me speeding up, cutting them off, and lots of honking (though it’s no use because I’ve already gotten what I wanted, suckers!). Thank you for good pizza. Thank you for having boroughs and confusing the hell out of everyone who’s not from around here.

Thank you for being amazing, tough, resilient, kind, eccentric, and every word or expression that equals “fierce bitch.” You are the greatest city in the universe and I’m so happy that you’re mine.
