With the proliferation of pop punk groups, it can be challenging for a new act to stand out. Minnesota band, The Fast Track, has found a way to do that with its first EP, The Life & Death of the Party.
Released in 2008, the five-song EP starts off strong with “Life and Death Of The Party” and maintains its energy with fast-paced tracks “Seaworthy” and “Good Night & Good Luck.” The band slows things down with “After All” and their final song, “Just A Memory,” but still manages to keep a fairly consistent sound. Instead of feeling out of place, they highlight the group’s potential and willingness to try something new.
The Life & Death of the Party is an impressive debut from The Fast Track. With catchy melodies and surprisingly thoughtful lyrics, it showcases some new talent in a genre in need of some diversity. You can purchase The Life & Death of the Party on iTunes and in Hot Topic stores.
The Fast Track is playing at Arlene’s Grocery on Sunday, January 25th. Doors are at 7 p.m. and the tickets are $8. The show is 21 and over, so be sure to bring your I.D.
